DISCOVERY
We had a kick-off meeting to understand what Innoval's pains are with the existing site and what their audience are looking for.
USE CASES
We used the results from the discovery phase to turn into Use Cases based on the different personas that will be used on the Innoval website.
BRANDING
We created stylescapes and a set of new brand guidelines to use both in their future content and marketing material, but also to kick-off the UI design for the website.
UI DESIGN
Using the signed off brand guidelines, we designed and presented the UI to Innoval before we did any building.
WEBSITE BUILD
We used Wordpress to build the site. When we use Wordpress, we have our own, very lightweight theme built on really good standards so we can leverage that to make sure that we have a theme that won't fall over and we can tweak it to fit the style and design we want.
On top of the theme we also built bespoke components such as contact forms, banners, sliders, editable blog pages, 'about us' pages and 'events' pages.
CONTENT MIGRATION
We helped Innoval transfer their content to the new website.
TESTING
We ran SEO tests, UAT testing, device testing across all devices and browsers. Once that was done, the website was ready to go into the world!
He / him. Tom is a pioneer of technical solutions and unrivalled "edge case thinker". If you have a problem, chances are he saw it coming, and can write some code to fix it. As Technical Director, he oversees all the nerdy work we do, as well as getting beard-deep in the coding of advanced web and app development projects. Powered by the Raspberry Pi in his pocket and genetically descended from a cat, Tom is a 3D printing, statistic loving, real ale drinking, blimp drawing legend.
She / her; green / blue. Zoe is a designer, daydreamer and self-anointed snack queen. Once described as “so awkward she’s charming” by a friend, there isn’t a day that goes by without her accidentally slipping in an innuendo. In winter, she hibernates in a blanket of books and netflix, but by late spring emerges with her trusty birkenstocks, ready to go on photography adventures and socialise with the neighbourhood cats. If she were a pokemon she would without a doubt be Pikachu, but a buzzfeed quiz has determined her to be a Magikarp. She’s a firm believer that buzzfeed quizzes cannot be trusted, under any circumstances.
He / him; yellow. Creative jack-of-all-trades, Matt is "dangerously knowledgeable" in almost every facet of marketing. His favourite field is branding, and he loves developing inspiring, daring brand identities for organisations who are ready to do something different. But he's equally talented at front end web development and developing digital strategies. He's also the front man and guitarist in local parody heavy metal outfit Evil Scarecrow, plus a huge fan of music, eating in nice restaurants, and going on holiday.
He / him. A dev guru, Russ has been playing with tech and building websites for longer than most of us can remember. He loves to weave together intricate systems in the background that create a seamless and beautifully functioning user experience. As our Financial Director, Russ is also in charge of important things like sending out invoices and buying selotape. A fan of real ales, three-course lunches, and networking events in exotic locations, you are just as likely to find him listening to heavy metal in a muddy field as you are hobnobbing with ecommerce execs in Singapore.
She / her; red / blue. Mel is a writer, editor and designer. Equally happy hiking a muddy trail as playing tabletop roleplay games by candlelight. Will seize any opportunity for a party, as long as said party features copious food, prosecco and hits from the 1980s. Her true passion lies in words. A student of literature, she is fascinated by enduring myths, etymology and science fiction. Kurt Vonnegut is her hero. “We are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”
She / her. Sylvia is our SEO expert and resident vampire. By optimising content for search results, she can help bring more quality traffic to your site. From her darkened lair, Sylvia also dabbles in web design and front end development, and she combines her talents to produce high-performance websites. She also loves heavy metal, the arts, comedy and vegan cooking.

Testing
Innoval are material experts and consultants who help organisations design, develop and manufacture better products for end-users and the environment. They work with anybody who is working with aluminium and help troubleshoot their manufacturing process, understand the material better and work out how to improve their products.
Their old site was challenging for Innoval, they couldn't make the edits they wanted to make and they felt it didn't represent them well as people. They needed a new website to kickstart their lead generation. Our job was to make sure the website is easy-to-use, edit and manage their end and that their audience can get a good sense of who Innoval are, as well as have the website serve them in any way they need it to.
We spent a good portion at the start of the project understanding their world, as it was quite alien to us — we're not aluminium specialists. We really wanted to be guided by them and what they were trying to do and the stories they wanted to tell. Spending time on that helped us work out exactly what SEO could do for them, what the right platform for them was and how to best serve their audience.
UX/UI design team, SEO team, development team and our project and account managers.
We engaged the team at Rusty Monkey to rebrand our company (Innoval Technology). They did a fantastic job; we've had positive feedback from many of our clients.
The process was fun and engaging throughout, with the Rusty Monkey team always on hand to answer questions or sort out technical issues.
We now view Rusty Monkey as our creative partners and we'll continue to work with them going forwards.
-- Helen, Innoval
A new, lead-generating website that can be edited by the team and a totally different representation of who Innoval are. It's a nice 'before and after' for us. It was quite a radical re-representation of them, and not just the website but the branding as a whole. The new brand was very well adopted by the team at Innoval across all of their touch points, it was such a delight to see.
